Humanities for All & Action Grant Application

Registration

*Required

As the person filling out the online application, please provide the following information. You may browse through the application by clicking on each section prior to registering; however you will not be able to enter data until you have registered. Once you register, you may immediately begin the application.

Once you have registered, you will immediately receive a registration confirmation email with a link to your application. You may save your application for later and revisit it by clicking on the link contained in the email. Please retain the email throughout the process until your application is submitted.

Sponsoring Organization

*Required

This is the organization submitting the application. The sponsor organization is responsible for overseeing the grant. The organization must be a non-profit located in Kansas.

Project Director

*Required

This person is responsible for management of the project and will submit final reports. All official correspondence and contracts will be sent to this person.

Fiscal Officer

*Required

This person is responsible for accounting of grant funds and cost share. The Fiscal Officer cannot serve as the Project Director.

Project Narrative

*Required

Estimate how many people this project will impact overall. This might be done through in-person public events, media broadcasts, web-based activities, or a combination of the three. All projects must include at least one public event.

Scholars

*Required

Every grant must involve at least one humanities scholar. Scholars are typically university faculty members, librarians, museum professionals, tribal elders, or independent experts. The Project Director cannot serve as the the project scholar.

Budget Form

Use the budget form below to provide a clear description of all the anticipated expenses throughout the course of the project.

  • Applicants must provide total cost share that is equal to or greater than the total grant amount requested.
  • Cost share is considered goods and services donated or contributed to the project by the sponsor organization (or parties involved) that are not funded with the grant.
  • Cost share may include: staff or volunteer time devoted to the project, donated use of office space, venue facilities, equipment, supplies, free publicity, refreshments, or other contributions.
  • Grant funds can only be used for direct costs.

The budget form indicates what is to be funded with the grant and what is cost share.

  • The left column lists expenses you would like Humanities Kansas to cover through the grant.
  • The middle column lists expenses covered through cost share.
  • The right column lists category totals to show total project cost.
  • In the Details fields, provide calculations for each expense that demonstrates how amounts were determined.

 
 
Project Staff
Project Staff is the value of time for people who administer the project, such as project director or promotions person. Full-time staff employed by the sponsor organization cannot be paid with grant funds.

 

Cost Share Project Staff
Fiscal Agent must be a cost share contribution. A volunteer has an in-kind value of $15/hr. Professionals donating specific services may be valued higher.

Honoraria
Honoraria are payments made to scholars involved in the project in roles such as consultant, speaker, or panelist. Honorarium is typically $150 per event, but should not exceed $500.

Non-Humanities scholar honoraria should be counted as cost share, typically $150 per event.

Allowable rates: Mileage ($.50/mi), Lodging ($100/night), Meals ($35/day), Airfare (Economy Rates only). Rental cars with economy rates are allowable.
